IT'S ALL ABOUT TRUSS

Level: General (everyone)

Description: This educational session will introduce participants to a myriad of technical and safety strategies regarding trussing. Workshop Highlights: 1. Learn efficient and safe truss building practices 2. Educate students about trussing options 3. Review the Technicalities of Trussing (i.e. calculating loads on structures, etc.) and learn how to read load tables in truss.

WIRELESS WORKSHOP
Time: 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Level: Beginner to intermediate 
Description: Wireless microphones are an ever-growing part of live audio today. Are you a beginner, just starting to learn about how it all works? Are you an intermediate user who wants to increase your knowledge so your next concert or musical sounds great with no dropouts or interference?

Richard Boileau of SFM Montreal will be presenting this workshop.

DIVERSITY OF COLOR:

TUNGSTEN VS LED SOURCES

Time: 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Description: A comparison of how conventional fixtures can drastically differ from using the various LED source fixtures.  See the differences or similarities on Scenery, Talent and Costumes and how it may change how your audience sees the show.  We will be using a range of popular fixtures to display the difference from Tungsten, and between LED fixtures. Also, find out why colors are never the same in video as they are to the eye.

TECH 101: AUDIO

Description: This session provides an explanation of sound theory, how to use, speakers, amplifiers, sound consoles and more.  Learn about signal path, basic console operation and how to choose the correct microphone. A demo of a popular sound playback software will be demonstrated.

TECH 101: LIGHTING

Description: This session covers the basics of theatrical lighting including each of the main conventional and LED theatrical fixture types from Spotlights, Floodlights, and Automated Fixtures. In addition, other topics include basic layout of theatre lighting locations and dimming and control topics.

WARDROBE 101

Time: 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: Meeting Room, Jubilee Auditorium (downstairs)

Description: Join Christy Hutchison, owner of Theatre Garage, for a discussion on the process of building wardrobe for a show, tips and tricks to keep everyone looking good (or bad) during the run of the show. Bring your wardrobe questions to an expert with years of building and show running experience.

Presenter: Christy Hutchinson

Christy has a multitude of experience building costumes and running shows, including her roles as Assistant Head of Wardrobe Running (2007-2010) at the Citadel Theatre, Head of Wardrobe for Shakespeare in the Park (2015-present), Owner/Head of Wardrobe of Theatre Garage (2009-present), IASTE 210 member and working in a variety of local theatre and films in and around Edmonton since 2004.

ADVANCED MIC TECHNIQUES

Description: This session will explain how to get the most from your audio sources, wireless and wired.  Learn how to choose the correct microphones for every application, and some tips on getting the most from your wireless microphones. Guest speakers from major microphone manufacturers will be on hand.

DPA, Shure, Countryman, and more will be presenting this workshop.

WHO CARES?
BUILDING BUZZ FOR YOUR

NOT JUST ANOTHER NETWORKING SESSION

Description: Do you want to learn more about networked lighting systems? Are you growing out of 512 channels in your lighting rig? Do you have a magic box in a closet that makes your system tick and you are terrified to troubleshoot? In this class we start with the protocols and work our way up to how to put a system together, including best practices, common language for parts and pieces, and typical layout examples. This class will be hands on and participation will be required, but we promise it will be fun and painless.

FRONT OF HOUSE ROUND TABLE

Description: This session will be an opportunity for front of house operations to discuss related issues and means to address them in a performing arts venue.

LED LIGHTING: TECHNOLOGY & APPLICATION

Description: This session includes a presentation and discussion on the current state of Led fixtures for the performance industry. Differences in color rendering, color ranges and how they affect skin tone, costumes and sets. View demonstrations of a number of LED ellipsoidal fixtures  Also discussed at this session, LED houselight solutions.

INSIGHT TO UNDERSTANDING YOUR AUDIENCE​

SOUND SYSTEM TUNING

Description: This one hour session will be a brief overview of the process and importance of sound system tuning. This session will include both theory and practical examples of the process of system tuning

SPEAKER SHOWCASE

Description: During the final hour of the Backstage Access Technology Expo, we will be presenting our first Audio Showcase.  Equipment demonstrated will include a wide variety of sizes and types of speakers, from the compact format to concert level systems.

The demo will take place in the main audience chamber of the Jubilee Auditorium during the last hour of the Backstage Access Technology trade show. This show has over 30 Audio, Lighting and Staging distributers showing the newest in performance technology 

DIGICO USERS Q&A

Description: Edmonton and area has an ever-growing number of Digico consoles and users. We are happy to partner with Gerr Audio to host a Digico users Q&A session.


This session will provide Digico users an opportunity to get together and share their successes and challenges.
We feel that building the Digico community in our area will be very beneficial. The Gerr team will be on site to field questions.

MA CONSOLE

Description: If you have a Dot 2 console, or any of the MA series of consoles, join your fellow programmers and a factory representative for discussion of best practices and tricks/tips on programming.
